POSTPARTUM GD (26/11/26) PN

Postpartum Gestational Diabetes Support Group

Starts 26 NovTo Be Advised

Service Description

We welcome women who have experienced gestational diabetes to learn more about staying healthy and looking after their Hauora after giving birth. Many mothers feel shame and guilt when diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Stigma involves being labelled and discriminated against by their whanau, friends and in the healthcare setting itself. As we know: - Women diagnosed with gestational diabetes are at a higher risk of developing pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes in the future - There is an increased risk of the baby also developing type 2 diabetes later on in life - Not all women have their HbA1c tested at 3 months and 12 months after giving birth We are offering support groups led by health professionals, who provide a safe and trusted space where mothers can share their experiences, ask questions and receive information that is easy to understand. Each session explores a different topic and will revolve: - Gestational diabetes overview – delivered by RN at Diabetes Trust - Nutrition and diabetes – delivered by RD at Diabetes Trust - Mental health & well-being – delivered by Massey Psychology - Importance of exercise – delivered by Sport Manawatu - Where to from now? – delivered RN at Diabetes Trust A hot drink and snack are provided at all sessions. PLEASE REGISTER so we can provide enough resources and refreshments. Click 'book now' to make your booking.
